Sumo Ozeki admits illigal gambling

A sumo wrestler of the second-highest rank has admitted that he had gambled illegally on professional baseball games.NHK has learned that Ozeki champion Kotomitsuki told the Japan Sumo Association that he had been involved in gambling, retracting his earlier denial.Tokyo police recently questioned him on a voluntary basis after a magazine reported that he is heavily in debt from gambling and was being blackmailed by mobsters.Thirty-four-year-old Kotomitsuki made his professional debut in 1999 after having won many amateur titles.He won his first tournament title two years later and was promoted to the second-highest rank of Ozeki in 2007.Tokyo police will question sumo wrestler Kotomitsuki again over his alleged involvement in illegal gambling.Police will also question other wrestlers who are suspected of having been involved in gambling along with Kotomitsuki.
